2.5 Week (17 days)
Cultural Boost Experience
Overview

This program is geared towards graduate students and mental health professionals who wish to expand their professional skill set, develop their Spanish language skills and enhance their cultural competencies. 

 

Briefly, participants have the opportunity to:

  • Live with a traditional host family and participate in all daily activities

  • Participate in 1:1 Spanish Instruction (10 hours weekly)

  • Work daily at a mental health clinic, orphanage, community outreach center, or educational setting

  • Develop a presentation and project that addresses the needs of each work site 

  • Receive daily individual supervision

  • Participate in weekly group supervision on topics pertinent to their work and professional interests

  • Attend weekly guest lectures by local and national leaders in the fields of education, psychology, child's rights, and neuroscience, and

  • Visit indigenous markets and monuments, tour historical centers, and places of interest in Quito and across Ecuador.

If you, a colleague, or a graduate student in the fields of education or psychology would like to acquire or reacquire knowledge of or fluency in the Spanish language, become confident in using Spanish professionally, acquire knowledge of a Latinx culture, and work in either a clinical facility or educational setting, then we believe that our summer cultural immersion programs may be of interest to you.

1.5 Week (12 days)
Cultural Shot experience
Overview

This program is geared towards teachers (general and special education), university professors, and mental health professionals who wish to enhance their openness to new ideas, dedication to lifelong learning, and ability to adapt to different cultures in an effective and competent manner.  

Briefly, participants have the opportunity to:

  • Live with a traditional host family and participate in all daily activities

  • Participate in 1:1 Spanish Instruction (10 hours weekly)

  • Work daily at a mental health clinic, orphanage, community outreach center, or educational setting

  • Develop a presentation and project that addresses the needs of each work site 

  • Receive daily individual supervision

  • Participate in weekly group supervision on topics pertinent to their work and professional interests

  • Attend weekly guest lectures by local and national leaders in the fields of education, psychology, child's rights, and neuroscience, and

  • Visit indigenous markets and monuments, tour historical centers, and places of interest in Quito and across Ecuador.

Independent sTUDy
Cultural Appreciation experience
Overview

This program is geared towards administrators, teachers (general and special education teachers), and mental health professionals who are highly motivated to develop their Spanish language skills, appreciation of cultural differences, and foster their ability to self-reflect in a limited amount of time.

Briefly, participants have the opportunity to:

  • Live with a traditional host family and participate in all daily activities

  • Participate in 1:1 Spanish Instruction (12 hours weekly)

  • Participate in research opportunities, and

  • Visit indigenous markets and monuments, tour historical centers, and places of interest in Quito and across Ecuador.
